Ok my blog has started off with far too much SQL and XML! That was never my intention. There are far more technical people then me out there who will have much more precise recommendations on these things. So lets get back to some easy stuff. And this tweak could not be easier…
To take your CRM web client from this:
To this:
All you need to do is replace the masthead.jpg file sitting on your CRM server with a customised version.
On my server the file resides here:
And I swapped out this image:
For this image:
(I opened up the standard image and my logo in PowerPoint and combined them there. Those with graphic design skills will be able to do a lot better than that, but those that don’t can get a good result in just a couple of minutes).
Now this is unsupported, the change may not survive a rollup pack update, it is unlikely to survive a version upgrade, and it certainly won’t survive a re-install. But it take only a few seconds to undo/redo, just make sure you keep a copy of the original file and a separate copy off of the server of your custom file. Re-branding CRM to something more meaningful to your organisation can help the adoption process so don’t be afraid of this little change.
You won’t see this change anywhere in the Outlook client, but you will see it in the Web client and on the IFD logon screen:
One final suggestion, the other place this tweak can be very useful is to highlight each of your supporting environments. If you are running separate development, UAT, training environments etc on seperate servers then consider customising the masthead on each server to highlight to the user which environment they are. Anything that stops someone customising production by mistake is worth doing! 🙂
If you like that, next consider swapping out the dynamics button logo for something personalised to give your logo presence on each CRM form, i.e. change from this:
To this:
The image is 38 x 38 pixels in size. It is stored in the same location as the masthead. There are actually 3 variations of the image as the image changes in appearance when the user hovers overs the button and again when they click it. The change in appearance is subtle and potentially you could just replace all 3 images with the same image. The filenames are:dynbutton_rest.jpg. (standard image)dynbutton_hover.jpg, (image when mouse hovers over it)dynbutton_down.jpg, (image when clicked)
Happy tweaking!
Hi,
This is really helpful. I was wondering is there a way to do the same in MS CRM 2011 online organization?
Thanks
